Animals Killed for Food Every Year: 72 billion

Animals killed for food every year – 72 billion. This is unnecessary amount of death, suffering and inefficiency in our food system.

According to one estimate, 200 million land animals are slaughtered around the world every single day. That’s 72 billion a year. In the United States alone, roughly 25 million animals are slaughtered every single day.

Animals Killed for Food

72 billion animals are slaughtered in the US. 25 million every single day. The untold amount of suffering that is occurring just for us to enjoy a meat (and bacteria laden meal) is just astonishing.

In this blog post I have detailed very clearly how meat is associated with inflammation with many sourced articles. There is no doubt that meat is creating inflammation in our bodies, which is contributing to our sickness.

Does anyone ever consider what the animals are going through? Does anyone consider the association between the emotional distress, the environment that which the animals lives in and the meat which we consume?

We consume their fear, their sadness, their sickness. We do this routinely, mostly without thinking about it at all.

What if we just suddenly stopped eating meat. Would our sickness go away? Would the planet and animal life suddenly fare better? I would say yes, but this is a collective suffering that both humans and animals are enduring.

Are we doing this to ourselves? Can the health of our society be improved just by changing our diet and the way we look at the world?

I believe in a better future where all food is healthy, and where suffering does not have to occur to have a meal. Our food science is advanced enough that we can create food that tastes just as good, if not better than the food we are eating now.

Think about it the next time you are shopping or choosing your meal. 72 billion animals in the US alone. This is unsustainable.
